Review: "Deadpool & Wolverine" is a hilarious, hollow nostalgia trip

Let's be very clear about what Deadpool & Wolverine is: it is a $200 million corporate victory lap designed entirely to make audiences point at the screen and cheer. If you go into this movie expecting a tight narrative, coherent character arcs, or even a logical explanation of how the multiverse works, you will be violently disappointed. The plot is thinner than paper, essentially serving as a chaotic road trip through the wasteland of 20th Century Fox's discarded superhero franchises.

However, if you are looking for pure, unadulterated entertainment, it is an absolute blast. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is electric. Jackman steps back into the Wolverine role seamlessly, bringing a surprising amount of emotional weight to a variant of Logan who feels like a failure. The action sequences are gory, kinetic, and deeply creative—especially a prolonged fight inside a Honda Odyssey that perfectly utilizes the cramped space and both characters' healing factors to deliver slapstick violence.

The film's reliance on cameos is both its greatest strength and its biggest weakness. Seeing legacy characters return is thrilling, but it often stops the movie dead in its tracks just so Deadpool can make a meta-joke to the camera. It’s a junk-food blockbuster that essentially functions as a two-hour roast of Disney and Marvel Studios. It won't fix the MCU's underlying storytelling issues, but it proves that when the studio stops taking itself so seriously, it can still deliver a ridiculously fun time at the theater.
