FromSoftware has done it again. Just when I thought my endgame build was overpowered and I was the true Elden Lord, Hidetaka Miyazaki dropped a DLC that humbled me within five minutes. A random enemy leapt from the shadows and two-shot me. Welcome back to the Lands Between.
Shadow of the Erdtree is not just an expansion; it is practically a sequel. The Realm of Shadow is dense, vertical, and gorgeous in a bleak, terrifying way. You can explore a crumbling castle, drop down a well, and end up in a bioluminescent river full of cosmic horrors. Its lore around Marika and Miquella recontextualizes the base game.
The bosses are the real meat. Messmer the Impaler is a brutal dance of dodges and parries, and Bayle the Dread is a dragon fight so cinematic it makes other games look small. You will die a lot. Some hitboxes border on unfair, but finally landing the fatal blow after hours of learning a fight is a high unmatched in gaming.
