Review: "The Flash" is a nostalgic fever dream with PlayStation 2 graphics

A bloated, visually repulsive multiverse mess that relies entirely on cheap nostalgia tricks.

Warner Bros. and DC hyped this for months, with executives calling it one of the greatest superhero films ever made. What a joke. The Flash is a chaotic, bloated, narratively broken mess that uses cheap nostalgia as a band-aid for a terrible script and atrocious CGI.

The visual effects are shocking. The opening, with Barry saving rubbery babies from a falling hospital, is so repulsive it feels like a prank. The third-act Chronobowl sequence is an atrocity. Calling the graphics intentional does not make them any less ugly.

Michael Keaton is the only genuine bright spot, but even he cannot save the finale. The multiverse cameos are soulless and ghoulish, especially the CGI resurrection of deceased actors. It feels like a boardroom generated a movie with an algorithm: a sad, embarrassing end to the DCEU.
